Trash-to-Treasure is Bayport’s flagship environmental sustainability initiative, aimed at inspiring responsible waste management, promoting recycling, and turning discarded plastics into meaningful products that benefit communities. The initiative begins at the most practical level, encouraging employees to separate their plastic waste from general waste. From there, plastics are recycled and transformed into purposeful, functional treasures that can be used around the office.
As part of the programme, the Bayport Echo Heroes team embarked on a learning and engagement visit to Mckingtorch Africa, Bayport’s recycling partners and a leading social enterprise in sustainable innovation. The team was warmly welcomed by founder, Makafui, who delivered an insightful presentation on Ghana’s plastic waste challenge, the creative solutions individuals and organizations can adopt, and the impactful work Mckingtorch Africa has been doing in recycling and upcycling.
The highlight of the visit was a hands-on recycling session, where the Bayport Echo Heroes transformed waste plastics into eco-friendly boards. These were then crafted into a beautifully designed bench, now proudly placed in the garden of Bayport’s Head Office. Affectionately referred to as the “Lovers’ Bench”, it stands as a symbol of sustainability, innovation, and the power of collaboration.
