At Bayport, sustainability is more than a buzzword, it’s a responsibility we live by. That’s why we launched Trash to Treasure, an employee-led initiative focused on reducing plastic waste and promoting a circular economy within our operations.
Trash to Treasure is more than a recycling campaign — it’s a culture of responsibility. It reflects Bayport’s commitment to building a workplace culture that values responsible living, teamwork, and environmental stewardship. Together, we’re proving that small changes — like sorting plastic at your desk — can lead to a big impact.
The Problem We’re Tackling
Plastic pollution remains one of the greatest threats to our environment. As a business with a national footprint and a highly engaged workforce, we recognize both our responsibility to minimize environmental impact and our opportunity to lead change from within.
Our Solution: A Simple but Powerful Process
The Trash to Treasure initiative empowers Bayport employees to take active ownership of sustainability through three key steps:
1. Sorting Waste at the Source
Across our offices, staff are encouraged to separate plastic waste such as bottles, wrappers, and containers into clearly marked plastic receptacles.
2. Measuring Our Impact
We track the weight of every batch of plastic collected and sent to our recycling partner, Mckingtorch Africa Limited. This allows us to monitor our progress and hold ourselves accountable month after month.
3. Partnering with Recyclers: Mckingtorch Africa Ltd.
We work closely with Mckingtorch Africa Limited, a certified recycling company, to ensure the responsible disposal and transformation of the plastic waste we collect.
Through this partnership, plastic is not only diverted from landfills but given a second life — turned into reusable items that support both sustainability and innovation. Mckingtorch plays a vital role in helping us close the loop, turning waste into valuable resources that can re-enter our offices and communities.
Looking Ahead: Giving New Life to Plastic Waste
As part of the ongoing Trash to Treasure initiative, the plastic waste collected across our offices will now be recycled into useful items that can be reintegrated into our workplace. Our team will be working with Mckingtorch Africa Ltd. to turn the collected plastic into practical office items such as benches, flowerpots, pen holders, and storage containers.
This step reinforces our commitment to sustainability by ensuring that the waste we generate is transformed into resources that support our daily operations, creating a closed-loop approach.
